MINES
Mines are a ground effect firework that look very similar in design to an ariel shell and mortar, but differ in that they produce an instantaneous blast of colour and effects directly from the tube rather than a burst effect in the sky. For this reason mines are in widespread use for Pyromusical displays, giving an immediate effect whch can be perfectly synchronised to a muscal passage or drum beat.

Consumer mine kits contain one or more tubes and several mines and are used in the same way as reloadable shells.
How Fireworks Work - Mines
In single-shot mines, the bottom of the mine tube contains a black powder lift charge, similar to that found in a shell. When ignited, the lift charge engulfs the stars in flame, igniting them as it propels them out of the tube in a V-shaped pattern. The "spread" of the stars in the sky depends on both the length and the width of the mortar. Reloadable mines are constructed almost exactly like shells, except the burst charge/lift charge is in a single compartment of the shell.
